Sweet Potato Pie

Hazelnut crust toasted to perfection.
Not too thick,
not too thin,
but just right & flaky.
Sweet orange cream fills the perfected crust,
smoothed over and cooked with love.
The elixir of life.
The aroma of cinnamon fills the room.
The first bite is absolute greatness.
A hint of nutmeg burst in my mouth,
and thoughts of my childhood rush back in a flurry.
The times grandma would make a whole pie just for me.
I can hear the click-clack of iron pans,
the swishing of house shoes, sliding across the glossy white floor.
Just as the moments start to slip away
I take another bite.
And just like that, I’m back in grandma’s kitchen,
eating that sweet potato pie!
