Kings and Queens

Kings and Queens of a land standing high and tall,
is where you come from!
Great civilizations existed,
empires built by the hands of your ancestors.
Do not forget you come from greatness.
So much was created in the mother land.
Don’t loose touch with the past.
Our ancestors were strong,
smart, unified as a nation.
We respected each other,
wanting the best for the next.

Kings and Queens of a land standing high and tall,
is where you come from!
Taken from what we built.
Split and spread to
Europe, Brazil, Chile, United States,
Mexico, Cuba, Jamaica, Bahamas, India, Asia,
places we have already been.
For 400 years slavery existed
for a colored man,
women,
child,
no preference of age just color.
People of my complexion became a commodity.
Sold, Traded, Taken, Worked, Killed, Moved
like cattle,
beast of the earth,
filth that God created,
on the levels of animals
is where they placed us.
But something lingered,
something stayed
something that couldn’t be taken away.
Something lay resting,
rumbling in the depths of souls.

Kings and Queens of a land standing high and tall,
is where you come from!
Many lost lives but faith and hope never lost
Many obstacles but faith and hope never lost
Many tears but faith and hope never lost
Many found strength and fought against inequality
Harriet Tubman, Booker T Washington,
Frederick Douglass, Olaudah Equiano ,
Nat Turner, Rosa Parks,
Martin Luther King Jr, Malcom X.
They broke laws,
went against what was seen as normal.
Marched, protested,
stood strong for the better of tomorrow.
Walls crumbled and changes took place.
Together we stood with a strength unmatched.

Kings and Queens of a land standing high and tall,
is where you come from!
Remember where you come from.
Don’t be satisfied with what you have now,
being tricked back into the mindset of slaves
disconnected from each other.
Gold ropes hanging from necks as a fashion statement,
black on black crime on the rise,
woman against man,
mothers against daughters,
father’s against sons.
Split at the root and pushed apart.
They fought through so much, for us just to be content.
Content with jails filled with us,
content with no justice for us,
content with our kids learning less and less.
Our voices are no longer unified,
i.n.d.e.p.e.n.d.e.n.t.
has become our new motto.

Kings and Queens of a land standing high and tall,
is where you come from!
We need our voice back,
we need our strength to rise once again,
and push the limits.
Go against bias judicial systems,
stand against black on black crime,
demand justice for our youth.
We must free our minds and gain a new since of pride and unity for ourselves.
Don’t get comfortable with today,
tomorrow is coming and better must be achieved.
We are Kings and Queens of a land standing high and tall,
remember where you come from!
